An assignment I did in forensics was done with the whole class and it was a painting and a shopping list found on the floor. In this assignment we came up with facts and inferences about shopping list and painting. This demonstrated habits of mind by the assignment causing my peers to communicate, connect, and investigate. The habit of mind I demonstrated most was investigating because I investigated painting and shopping list by balancing facts and inferences but in order to do the two I had to dig deep into the painting and shopping list. Investigate is an important HOM in life and school because it will help me come to an accurate conclusion, this will help me not jump to assumptions about things in life and school. Investigating will give me concrete evidence for the most part. Being creative or imaginative is another habit of mind demonstrated because in order to find out what kind of people had the shopping list and what it was for you had to be creative and use your imagination. Being creative/imaginative is important to have in school and life because that is really the only thing that makes us unique besides our looks.

Inferences about the Household
What kind of household is this? (Family? Frat house?) How many people do you think live in the household? What’s their socio-economic class? Do you see any habits of the household, based on what was bought? Who in the house bought these items? (Be able to explain WHY you are able to infer these things).
These were the questions brought upon us about the shopping list that we had to figure out.

"Honey I shrunk the students DNA Electrophoresis simulation "
A lab I did during the DNA unit was called “Honey, I shrunk the students DNA Electrophoresis simulation” lab. This lab taught me how restriction enzymes start and end when going through gel by having us line up in the “gel” by height. In the end I learned when restriction enzymes cut certain genes each gene is broken up in the gel by size which means means the smallest goes first and the biggest go last . We used our bodies as the “genes” to stimulate what restriction enzymes do to genes when they are in the gel. This requires no equipment. The habit of mind used during this lab is being creative or imaginative because we had to imagine each other as linked genes being cut by restriction enzymes in gel. Another habit of mind used in this lab is collaborative teamwork because we had to all communicate with each other to find out which “genes” go first and which ones go last. Being creative and imaginative is an important habit of mind to have in life and school because in order to have fun while learning new concepts you must have imagine it in your head for a better understanding. In life and school another habit of mind that is important is collaborative teamwork because when you are given a group assignment in school or at work you must collaborate with your team to get the task done.
BIOTECH POPDAY
The biotech POP day was a debate about modern biotechnology advancements and what possible harm they can cause to humans. It was set up as 2 circle, an inter circle where the debate was going on and a outer circle around it which contained the “pop ins”. After everyone in the inner circle was done debating people from the outer circle had a chance to pop in the inner circle and give their side on what they believe. During this assignment a habit of mind demonstrated was investigative research/reasoning because we had to research each topic and reason with our peers depending on what side they are on. Another habit of mind demonstrated was effective communication because everyone on the inner circle had to to respect each others sides and be professional about each others opinion which meant if they disagreed they must effectively communicate in a proper manner to get their point across. The two habit of minds demonstrated during this assignment are important in school and life because in order to get what you want you must effectively communicate. To learn new things and support your side on something you believe; you must use investigative research/reasoning.
